The perfect Saturday morning

My perfect weekend would start with a leisurely breakfast, followed by a stroll around Minchinhampton, which has a small but perfectly formed set of shops in the High Street and lots of mellow Cotswold stone buildings, and if the weather is fine, then a short walk around the Great Park (part of Minchinhampton Common).  Then off to Stroud Farmers' Market (every Saturday morning) which is packed with an ever-changing set of high quality local products (food and crafts).  There are lots of places to sit and have a coffee, watching the world go by, and it is also worth looking round the variety of independent shops (some tucked away down little alleyways).   For lunch, head to the Tunnel House Inn, a 17th Century pub set in an idyllic rural location, where the staff are very friendly and the food is great.  After lunch, pop down the road to Rodmarton Manor, which is the most fabulous Arts and Crafts house, with original furniture and wonderful gardens (Rodmarton Manor is open from May until September, so in April and October I would visit Kelmscott Manor instead - another wonderful Arts and Crafts house, which was lived and worked in by William Morris and his family).  My perfect Saturday would then be finished off with a delicious and leisurely supper at Sophie's Restaurant (having booked a table in advance - it is very popular).

 The perfect weekend

Sunday would be the day to have a nice walk, maybe the 'Ice Cream Walk'.  This walk starts and finishes at Winstones Ice Cream Factory on Rodborough Common, and has wonderful views both over the Golden Valley and then, as you walk through Houndscroft, more beautiful views across the Severn.  A local lunch at one of the many excellent dining pubs (The Black Horse, The Old Lodge or The Ragged Cot to mention just a few) or slightly further afield at the Bathurst Arms, near Cirencester.  My ideal Sunday would finish with a potter around some of the antique shops in Tetbury and I might just manage to pop into the Highgrove shop for a small impulse buy!
